WANTED -- ALIVE -- A NUMBER 5 RUNNER!

Yes-we need him alive! That elusive # 5 runner... that's what I'm searching for.

Who's it gonna be?

It's easy to get hung-up on #1. Yet it's #5 who closes the door in big meets.

Numbers 1 through 4 can run great in those big meets but you will get hammered if #5 has a bad day. Number 5 is everything.

Both boys and girls teams look pretty solid up-front, but there is a gap at # 5. That gap will sink your season if it doesn't get filled. Now don't get me wrong--if you can be #1-4 by all means you better be # 1-4. But if you aren't there yet, please remember that #5 is the last scoring position, and as such ultimately determines the team score.

Likely contenders at the moment for our lady Conqs are: Alayna Davis, Olivia Lenick, Whitney Stenger, Alayna Wachter, and Savannah Luther. I'm also not counting out the Vasquez twins. When those two get in shape and focus on the prize the dynamics of this team will change immeasurably.

The guys squad has some real depth in this middle 5-7 area, but someone has to break through and establish themselves. I don't see that happening yet. I haven't seen anyone busting out to lock-up that position. There are many current prospects. Most notably are Adam Mosher, Jeng Poon, Trevor Swain and Will Richmond. But Jeng has been nursing an injury which opens up the slot to a batch of promising under classman. Think an incredibly improved James Coleman for one! Now let's look at some suprising newcomers like Skyler Genger, Brian Pokinghorn, Amandeep Singh, Joseph Tice, Armani Kidane, and Mike Maloney. With some hard work and determination any of those can jump onto the varsity squad.

Now let me give you a real dark horse candidate who could easily break into our top 5 and stay there helping lead this team into the post season. Potentially he's one of the strongest runners on the entire team: Ben Smith!

Well guys and gals, what are we waiting for? Get cracking and sew up that number 5 slot. And if you are #20, that's fine just so long as you are putting pressure on #19!

So, as I said when I openned this blog... who's it gonna be?
